October 2003 Meeting

Dr. Patrick Michaud went through the basics of setting up a Samba server. The demo network consisted of the server on a Redhat 9 linux desktop with a windowsXP notebook and a Windows98 notebook all connected through a hub. After a quick test using a Samba client on the server itself to test if the server was online Pat proceeded to bring the notebooks online. The Windows98 OS offers the most challange. Pat gave us several tips on the 98 setup that will save many hours for those of us that are willing to try Samba on our own. One 98 subtlety is that you have to loggin to the 98 network to be able to use samba.

  Thanks Dr. Michaud
